Origin

After “graduating” from Frenchtown School this past June, we knew that we wanted to quickly get back in the classroom and launch after school programs that will enrich young students in a creative, nurturing and enjoyable environment.

We have spent this last year creating a project-based learning curriculum that is personalized…exciting…and motivating. Students attending Curious Kids Learning Academy will learn, gain confidence, make new friends, and have fun at the same time.

From experience, we know that children crave a chance to explore and discover interests that may not be part of the traditional curriculum. Through the years, we have also observed that children need a safe and comfortable space in order to excel and stretch their thinking. We have created that space for them at Curious Kids Learning Academy.

The bottom line: We are SO excited to launch Curious Kids Learning Academy, and we are highly motivated to provide your children with a truly enriching classroom experience, utilizing the latest strategies and techniques in education

What Is Project Based Learning

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional approach that focuses on engaging students in real-world, hands-on projects that allow them to apply what they are learning in a meaningful way. Instead of just memorizing information, students work collaboratively on projects that are designed to be challenging and require them to solve problems, think critically, and be creative. PBL typically begins with a driving question or problem that students are asked to solve, which guides their research and work throughout the project. PBL can be used in a variety of subject areas and grade levels, and it is often used to help students develop skills that are essential for success in the 21st century, such as collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. The goal of PBL is not only to help students master content knowledge, but also to prepare them to be lifelong learners who can apply what they have learned to real-world situations.

Meet The Founders

Roberta Serby

A native New Yorker, I received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Florida, and an M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Baruch College in New York City. After moving to Rhode Island, I earned a second Master’s in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College. My teaching career kicked off as a fourth grade teacher at Eldredge, and then “reverse graduated” through the years to the third and second grades at Frenchtown School!

I absolutely love teaching children of all ages. I believe that children are capable of using their knowledge and imagination to discover and create beyond what they thought was possible in a comfortable, supportive, stress-free environment.

In my spare time, I place an emphasis on continual learning in all facets of my life. Whether it be keeping up on the latest technologies (yes, ChatGPT is…interesting!), traveling to see different animal species (LOVE sloths!) or learning a new word (or two) every day, there’s always something to stimulate the mind. Of course, I also enjoy relaxing at the beach and the occasional Netflix binge. Most of all, I treasure my family and love spoiling our adorable Havanese, Lucky!

Michele Rinn

I am a lifelong resident of Rhode Island and have spent the most satisfying years of my career in the classroom helping children of differing learning styles reach their full potential.

I earned my B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Rhode Island, graduating Summa Cum Laude, all while raising three young boys.

I have worked primarily as a first and second grade teacher in the East Greenwich School Department. I have also done extensive tutoring work with students up to the sixth grade, many of whom were “Mrs. Rinn graduates” from earlier years!

Curious Kids Learning Academy is such a natural next step for us and we look forward to making a positive impact educationally and socially for the children in our community.

“We couldn’t be more motivated to introduce Curious Kids Learning Academy to the community’s children and families. As experienced, dedicated educators fully tuned in to the latest teaching strategies and learning styles, we have identified exciting and highly creative ways to enrich each child’s vast potential more fully.”
